Are you thinking about undergoing male breast reduction but have some nerves or anxiety about the surgery? Being well-prepared can help you feel more confident and increase your chances of a smooth procedure and recovery. Read on as Dr. A.J. Khalil, a sought-after male breast reduction surgeon in Beverly Hills, shares his best tips for preparing for surgery.

Overhaul Your Diet and Exercise Routine

The healthier and stronger you are going into surgery, the likelier you are to enjoy a smooth recovery. As you prepare for surgery, up your consumption of fruits, vegetables and lean protein, and reduce your intake of processed or packaged foods. Try to get a minimum of 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise at least three times a week. It is also important that you cut out alcohol and stop smoking.

Adjust Your Medications as Needed

Certain medications, vitamins and supplements are contraindicated for plastic surgery. They may increase the risk of bleeding or suffering an adverse reaction to anesthesia. Dr. Khalil will ask you for a list of prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins and supplements you take. He may also advise you to stop taking some of these medications or switch to a similar, safer one in the weeks leading up to your surgery.

Make Arrangements for Your Recovery

Another way to soothe nerves and put your mind at ease is to channel your energy into making arrangements for the day of surgery and your recovery.

Plan to take at least one week off from work following your surgery. If your job is physically demanding, you probably need to take additional time off. During your initial recovery, you will spend most of your time resting and relaxing, so make sure your schedule is clear and you have help with caring for your children and/or pets.

Prep your home by stocking the fridge with simple meals and snacks. Do a few loads of laundry so you have clean, comfortable clothing and linens. Identify one area of your home, such as your bed or living room recliner, as your recovery space, and stock it with recovery essentials such as pillows, tissues, reading material and the phone number of your plastic surgeon’s office.

Finally, make sure to arrange for a family member or caregiver to drive you to and from surgery and stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery.
